Association lobbying spending levels shrink in 2010

Nearly half of all groups report spending less; some temporarily ramp up expenditures in effort to fend off action from Congress Money spent on lobbying efforts by associations, nonprofits and unions ebbed in 2010, the latest figures reported to Congress show. Overall spending fell by 2.3 percent from the record-setting amounts reported in 2009, and nearly half of the 770 groups tracked by CEO Update disclosed spending less than the previous year.
